Meet the Team
Stretch

With a love for the ocean and a desire for adventure, Stretch began diving in 2007. Little did he know how quickly and dramatically his life would change. Diving provided him an opportunity to travel, meet new people (including his wife), and see parts of the world few people get to experience. Stretch enjoys all manners of diving; from shallow water reef diving to deep shipwrecks but his main focus is cave diving. There’s just something about those water filled holes in the Earth! Stretch is an active member of the GUE community and the Woodville Karst Plain Project (WKPP). His interest in exploring the underwater world, sharing it with others, and promoting aquatic conservation, has become his life’s passion. As an instructor, Stretch knows that each student he trains could be a future teammate. He takes a mentoring-style approach to instruction that helps divers at all levels feel at ease. Stretch is a GUE Project Diver, Cave 2, DPV, Tech 2, PSCR, and CCR diver. He is trained in CPR, first aid, AED, and oxygen administration.
Hedgie

Melissa “Hedgie” took her first open water class in 2002 knowing she wanted to be a cave diver. Once she found GUE, she never looked back. From her first breath underwater in a Mexican cenote, she knew the karst environment was something special. To Hedgie, GUE is about community. Every new GUE diver becomes part of a global network of teammates and friends. Her work with H2OXPLR supports operations and outreach. She has even been known to send cookies and capture video used for feedback sessions. Melissa is a GUE Cave 2, DPV, Tech 1, and CCR 1 diver.
